4. Fergus Padel

It is no easy matter to make a name for oneself as a fashion photographer in Germany, if one specializes in scenes emphasizing intimacy, because generally the readers and customers only want to see one thing: the clothes.

But Fergus Padel uses this gentle style in her fashion photos. Her primary interest is first in the people in her shots, then the clothes.
One thus sees thoughtful faces and natural-looking poses in her works. In this way, Fergus Padel, who lives in London, has succeeded in developing her own distinctive style. This also has to do with her selection of her models; she never chooses ostensibly beautiful, but interesting people instead. Her styling of the clothing follows the same principle. Everything is simple, almost accidental: this is the source of the great power of her fashion photography. She transfers the looks into real life and the viewer is able to place himself in the scenes and clothing being presented. Normally, there is always something unreal, distant, about fashion photography. With her subtle pictorial language, Fergus Padel stands for a counter-movement here. Her most recent works are for the Look Books (the collection catalog) of the designer Kostas Murkudis. After seven years in Berlin, Padel has decided to return to working in the English and international markets.
