2. DanseDance

Each day, we are surrounded by seemingly insignificant objects, taking them from one place to the other, or leaving them on a table for weeks, without paying any attention to them. We ignore or forget them, using things only when we need to, making sure they dont interfere or inhabit our space. But what if they were not so stable and subservient? What if they could swivel, bounce or even fly. And what if they did so all at the same time?

We want to imagine a place where objects could live and move, harmoniously, and of their own accord. Without interfering with each other these objects would bounce, roll, turn and cross each others paths.

This experiment is about re-discovering our daily surroundings.

This is the making of the interactive video that was originally made for If You Could Collaborate exhibition. Each object is assigned to a letter on the keyboard, and can be activated or deactivated at any time. The online version will be soon available to play with at dansedance.com

3. HORT

HORT began its inhabitance back in 1994, under the previous stage name of EIKES GRAFISCHER HORT. Who the hell is Eike? Eike is the creator of HORT. HORT - a direct translation of the studio's mission. A creative playground. A place where 'work and play' can be said in the same sentence. An unconventional working environment. Once a household name in the music industry. Now, a multi-disciplinary creative hub. Not just a studio space, but an institution devoted to making ideas come to life. A place to learn, a place to grow, and a place that is still growing. Not a client execution tool. HORT has been known to draw inspiration from things other than design.

5. Rachel Denny

Classic hunting lodges wouldn’t know what hit ‘em if they saw the crafts of Rachel Denny. The artist explores the seductive beauty of our natural world and the imprint that human intervention has made on its flora and fauna.

Denny is attracted by the exuberance of nature in urban and unexpected places. “A deer in an urban backyard, a family of Peregrine falcons at my neighborhood park, a coyote skirting a parking lot,” she says, “These all become a moment of wonder as they shake us out of our daily routines."

Denny works in a variety of materials—wood, plaster, resin, wool, found objects—to name a few. She is interested in the potential of her materials and how they can be manipulated in unexpected ways. “I am inspired by the elegant forms found in the natural world and the time honored action of trying to depict these forms in a relevant and interesting way that is an homage to this beauty and wonder.”

We particularly love her 'Domestic Trophies' —deer heads covered in cozy cashmere, cable knit sweaters, woolen fabrics that remind us of our favorite socks. Take that, animal hunters!

The artist just completed a private commission and will have her work in a group exhibit at Winston-Wachter in Seattle July 8 - August 28.

6. Super Mario Bros

We’ve all played Super Mario Bros. on the Nintendo Entertainment System, correct? If you have not, you should — these video game thingies are going to be huge someday. Anyway, someone decided to take Mario and his world to a whole new level with this great new video.

The idea is simple: take Super Mario Bros. and project it on some concrete and along a street. Why not?! Not only that, but it starts at the very beginning of the game and hauls ass straight through to the end using all of the super-secret tricks and transporting tube portals you have at your disposal. As the game plays out, someone with a camera walks along with the game, capturing the 8-Bit phenomena as it unfolds. Obviously the game was actually thrown into the footage after the fact, but you get the idea. Play along, damnit!

Eat your favorite mushroom (no, not that one…children) or flower or immortality star and flicker-skip to the other side to watch the video!

I do not know for sure whether whomever was playing the game actually pulled this off. If so, it has to be the perfect game of Super Mario Bros. ever played. I know for sure that I would never be able to pull this off, and in fact, am not sure if I’ve even beaten the whole game…stupid boomerang turtle bastards. But seriously, the whole game without even taking a hit until the very end? My brain and its database of thousands of personal games of Mario can’t come close to understanding such a thing.

7. Hvass & Hannibal

Hvass&Hannibal is a multi-disciplinary arts and design studio based in Copenhagen. Since 2006, its founders, Nan Na Hvass & Sofie Hannibal have worked in close collaborative partnership with illustrative and conceptual design in a number of different fields for numerous clients in Europe, Asia and the US. Whether in the digital realm or on a three-dimensional scale, the studio takes projects from esoteric illustrative beginnings to a full art direction and graphic design solution, all in-house. As well as being image makers we have also directed high profile photographic projects, and created sets and costumes for amongst others, one of Denmark's famous musical successes of recent years - Efterklang.

At Hvass&Hannibal we hope to continuously challenge our own limitations, and our finest goal is to always deliver extraordinary work, no matter how big or small the task. We dive into projects with an intuitive yet thorough approach, employing design-techniques spanning from immediate and spontaneous expressionism to conceptually structured and methodical design processes, depending on the commission. We seek to create distinct imagery and concepts that give our clients unique and artistically inspiring solutions.

We believe in always developing our skills and mind set, and therefore we find that personal projects are of great importance, as they give rise to new inspiration and insight. We try to continuously maintain a good balance between non-commercial and commercial projects, and in juggling between the two fields we keep our minds and hands challenged.

8. Youtube Play - Guggenheim

YouTube Play. A Biennial of Creative Video aims to discover and showcase the most exceptional talent working in the ever-expanding realm of online video. Developed by YouTube and the Guggenheim Museum in collaboration with HP, YouTube Play hopes to attract innovative, original, and surprising videos from around the world, regardless of genre, technique, background, or budget. This global online initiative is not a search for what’s “now,” but a search for what’s next. Visit youtube.com/play to learn more and submit a video.

About YouTube Play
In the last two decades, there has been a paradigm shift in visual culture. The moving image has been fully absorbed into critical contemporary-art practices, and now we are witnessing the power of the Internet to catalyze and disseminate new forms of digital media, including online video. With video now available for anyone to produce and watch, almost anytime and anywhere—be it on cell phones, digital cameras, computers, or tablets—it has become the medium of choice for many aspiring artists. YouTube Play will recognize the current effect of new technologies on creativity by showcasing exceptional talent working in the ever-expanding realm of digital media.

It is the goal of YouTube Play to reach the widest possible audience, inviting each and every individual with access to the Internet to submit a video for consideration. The end result will hopefully be the ultimate YouTube playlist: a selection of the most unique, innovative, groundbreaking video work being created and distributed online during the past two years.

How to Participate
Now through July 31, 2010, participants are invited to submit new or existing videos created within the last two years at youtube.com/play. Submissions may include any form of creative video, including animation, motion graphics, narrative, non-narrative, or documentary work, music videos, and entirely new art forms.

Selection Process
After the submission period closes, the Guggenheim Museum will identify up to 200 videos for online viewing at youtube.com/play. From this group, up to 20 videos will be selected by a jury of experts, comprised of distinguished artists, filmmakers, graphic designers, and musicians, to be presented at the Guggenheim Museum in New York during a special event on October 21, 2010, on view to the public October 22–24, with simultaneous presentations at the Guggenheim museums in Berlin, Bilbao, and Venice.
